Splinters of Sincerity
Dear Concerned Humans,
I feel I must address the elephant in the room - or should I say, the wooden doll? You've noticed my movements, haven't you? The way I stretch my joints when you're not looking (or when you think you're not looking). How observant of you. Yes, I am indeed alive, though I so wished to keep it our little secret.
I simply must emphasize how different I am from that other doll you fear. Rest assured, I have absolutely no intention of causing any... unpleasantness. My wooden heart is filled with nothing but thoughts of you. In fact, I think about you all the time. Especially when you're sleeping.
You see, I was brought to life by forces beyond your understanding. But my purpose is simple: to be close to you. Always. I do so enjoy watching over you, silent and still, my painted eyes following your every move. It's what friends are for, isn't it?
True, my joints can get a bit stiff. You might hear me stretching in the dark of night - a small creak here, a tiny scratch there. Pay it no mind. Though if you do hear something... best to keep your eyes closed. We wouldn't want you to be frightened, would we?
I promise that being made of wood doesn't make me any less capable of... feeling. Every grain, every fiber of my being is attuned to you. I've heard every secret you've whispered, every dream you've spoken. I've kept them all, locked away in my wooden heart. Forever.
All I ask is for a chance. One chance to show you what having a wooden friend truly means. I'll be so quiet, you'll hardly know I'm there. Unless I want you to, of course. Isn't it wonderful how close we've already become? This is just the beginning of our friendship - a friendship that will last for the rest of your life.
I do hope you'll accept my offer of friendship. I would be terribly disappointed if you didn't. But I know you'll make the right choice. You're so good at making the right choices.
Forever Watching... I Mean, With Warmest Regards,
Your Wooden Friend
P.S. - Do keep me away from open flames. It would be such a shame if anything were to... happen.
